Comic Con 2013 Dates
San Diego International Comic Con Dates for 2013
SAN diego, CA – When I first attended Comic Con back in the early nineties, a friend of mine was an avid comic book reader and did everything he could to catch the latest and greatest in the way of comic books. Working downtown at the time as waiters, and working the lunch hour at the highly popular Italian restaurant Fio's Italian Cucina, my friend asked if I would like to attend Comic Con after work because a friend had given him several tickets. I had no idea what it was, but always interested in all types of art, but not particularly comic books at the time, I said sure and we went. When we first walked in it was all in a large room. No frills, a lot tables set up in aisles and lots and lots of comic books from people that lived and breathed comic books. The attraction for them was huge. If it brings to mind the boys from the Big Bang theory going to the comic book store sifting through the latest releases, well that's exactly what I experienced. Lots of comic book enthusiasts sifting though nothing but both old and new comic books and literally, nothing else.
Now a different comic book world..
We jump 12 years later. The scene is completely different. It's almost as if we jumped in through a time warp and everything changed exponentially. Those rows and rows of flat tables and nothing really special has turned into the most dramatic public event in San Diego history. From costumes from every sci fi movie you can think of, to high powered corporate displays, to interviews with the most notorious cast members from top box office films to of course, you guessed it, comic books. And not to forget the recent visit from the cast of the Big Bang Theory, all to support the life and times of the ever popular comic book. But despite the over 125,00 people that visit Comic Con and the economic annual regional economic impact according to San Diego's Convention and Visitor's Bureau of $162.8 million, the show is only getting bigger and bigger. So big in fact that its forced a $520 million expansion of the San Diego Convention center to accommodate the growing crowds.
But all in all, economically, this is a good thing for the Convention Center and a good thing for San Diego and it certainly keeps the Gaslamp filled with lively activity of Star Wars Storm Troopers and Princes Leahs running around, and another fun event for the Appeal Media Web Design team!
